Alpaca Fur Rugs Alpaca, a cousin to the Llama, raised domestically in high altitudes of the Andes Mountains of Peru, are what these beautiful rugs are made of. Natural colored hides are cut up and sewn together by the artisans to create the patterns. Classified as a wool, alpaca fur doesn’t shed. Maintenance of these rugs includes brushing with a stiff animal brush and vacuuming with just a vacuum, not a beater bar. Each rug can be cleaned using rug shampoo and a vacuum cleaner. Please note that various shading and coloring may occur depending on the artisan’s artistic license. For example, the rug may have either a white or brown border.
